How doe Dermal Fillers Rejuvenate Smiles?

​​Hyaluronic acid is a key natural part of the skin (extracellular matrix) that helps to (among other things) retain moisture in skin. For example with the natural aging process, if there is less of natural occurring hyaluronic acid skin can start to become less firm or full loosing a once youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers are used to augment this process by helping the skin return to its full self again. In the process smoothing out line and depression and adding volume, where loss has occurred.  In a simplistic sense dermal filler fill in wrinkles and plump the skin back optimal state.

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

​Fillers have been used for decades; however, it was not until the last decade that advances in dermal fillers really started to make strides. Recent studies has shown dermal fillers are very safe. It is important along with dermals fillers to have a thorough history and exam before administration to maximize aesthetics and minimize minor side effects such as swelling, bruising. As in any medical procedure rare side effects can occur, such as infection, lumpiness or skin discoloration.

Will Dermal Fillers Cause Me Pain?

​Dermal fillers are generally considered to cause very low level of discomfort at the injection site, which is usually temporary. To try to minimize any discomfort anesthetic is used around the site. Usually 24-48 hours after the procedure there can be some minor swelling and in some cases a bit of tenderness. 

How Long do Dermal Fillers Last?

 Individual results can very, but over time the natural process of the body will gradually continue to change and turn over time fold and wrinkles will reappear.
